Cambodia Celebrates 18th Anniversary of Royal Ballet

PHNOM PENH: Prime Minister Hun Sen has released a celebratory message on Sunday as Cambodia celebrates the 18th anniversary of Royal Ballet. The Prime Minister has considered Royal Ballet as an intangible cultural heritage of humanity. Along with his message is a video showing the Khmer traditional dance also known as Robam Preah Reach Troub. It was posted by Prime Minister of Cambodia on his Facebook page. He says the Royal Ballet is the only invaluable heritage property of the Kingdom of Cambodia that has preserved this ancient drama for a long time.

The Prime Minister says, "This ancient Khmer dance or royal dance is a form of sacred dance; it is famous for radiating gentle gestures that are admirable."

Royal Ballet, Khmer Classical Dance, is a type of dance in which the dancers skillfully use gestures, movements and emotions according to the flow of the story. It is usually being performed accompanied by the Pin Peat Orchestra. The Royal Ballet was inscribed on the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity on 7 November 2003 in Istanbul, Turkey, and has been existing for 18 years.
